"Compassion is the heartbeat of a thriving community, where every act of kindness ripples through the lives of its members, creating a tapestry of support, understanding, and unity."
Launceston Benevolent Society, we are committed to serving our community with compassion and support. We are an non-religious, not-for-profit welfare service providing essential assistance to individuals and families facing financial hardship. Our mission is clear: to offer immediate relief through food, clothing, and household goods, allowing you to redirect your resources towards bills and necessities.
Our Approach: Walking Beside You
We believe in walking alongside you during your journey out of crisis. Our dedicated team is here to help you set and achieve your goals, providing guidance and support every step of the way. We understand that financial challenges can be overwhelming, and we are here to provide a helping hand when you need it most.
We provide emergency support and assistance for people in need in the form of food hampers, supermarket vouchers, clothing, furniture, nappies, linen, towels & blankets.
In addition to our core services, we offer free shower and laundry facilities to provide further support and dignity to those in need. Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to ensuring that you receive the best support and experience possible. Everyone is welcome at Launceston Benevolent Society.
Our Vision: Growing Compassionate Communities
At Launceston Benevolent Society, we envision a community where no one is left in hardship or isolation. We are dedicated to fostering compassion and connection throughout our community. Our services are free of charge, and we rely on the generosity of donors and businesses who share our commitment to creating compassionate communities.
A Legacy of Service
We have been helping the families in Launceston and the greater surrounds since 1834. We originally started up to help the free settlers coming to Australia to settle in this wonderful country. Back in the early days convicts were given assistance by the government to settle, not free settlers. This is how The Benevolent Society started, and we are very proud to say that we are still assisting new Australians to settle.
